Dr. Rebecca Downey is a Board Certified Family Practitioner. Born in raised in NYC, she attended undergrad at NYU, medical school at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency at St. Barnabus Hospital in NYC. After Residency she moved to Europe, and lived in Germany and England, working as a Civilian provider for the US ARMY. After 16 years abroad, she returned to the United States in 2016 and relocated to Charlottesville, where her four other siblings now also reside. She is married to a German citizen, and is a mom to two girls and a very active Entlebucher Swiss herding dog (Luna).
Dr. Downey is a strong believer in Primary Care as a listening and back and forth therapeutic relationship. She is a strong believer in the impact of nutrition, physical activity, sleep, managing stress and environmental chemical exposure have on our health, and incorporates that philosophy into her treatment plans. Her goal is to offer patients her medical knowledge, and help guide and empower them in their decision making process regarding their health. Dr. Downey also incorporates Osteopathic manual medicine when appropriate. She treats patients of all ages, but has a soft spot for teens.
In her free time, Dr. Downey likes to scuba dive, hike, cross country ski, dive into a new sci-fi novel and hang out with her large extended family cooking, playing guitars and singing.
